Did you notice how I didnt follow that grand header statement up with "... For the money."
Quite simply, that is because the low cost is just the beautifully decorated icing on the cake! When David from Aquaite first reached out to us, his relaxed, cheerful, beach dude persona was an instant hit. I knew I could work with this guy. Then, when he showed me the product I was actually a little taken back.
The new Aquaite paddle has been beautifully designed and crafted. The carbon weave looks perfect with not a strand out of place, the bamboo veneer is a gorgeous colour and the gold inlaid graphics on the shaft bring this stunning bit of kit together perfectly. Oh, and the pink details on the blade and grip that help you to find your paddle in the surf... Why didn't I think of that! Brilliant!!
Despite the looks, for me it was always going to be about performance. I've been lucky enough to paddle with a fair number of blades in all sorts of extreme environments so I know what I'm looking for.
- I'm feeling for the catch, the way the blade loads up and holds the power that I drive through the shaft. I'm checking that the grip sits solidly in the palm of my hand so that I can totally control the blades release. I also want to know that the blade displaces water evenly without causing too much flutter or turbulence upon the entry phase, and that the shaft offers just enough recoil to satisfy my power phase without killing my shoulders. Also that it has a balanced weight. Not so light that I lose the feeling of inertia, but in no way heavy enough to cause extra fatigue.

I can confirm that the new Aquaite paddle passes all of my stringent assessments with flying colours but one most important above all, the paddle makes me feel amazing!! I'm an average height and weight (5'11 - 11st) and the blade size (about 90 square inches) enables me to paddle hard and fast with variable levels of cadence in the surf and on a journey. I don't feel myself craving for more power or suffering early fatigue. The recoil on the shaft is well balanced and the blade angle and structure enables a clean, precise entry and release to my stroke which just aids my immence happiness when paddling with it!
I cant speak highly enough of this paddle. Finally a high quality, super light, user focused paddle has come to the market at a totally attainable price. I predict that this will be one of the fasted selling paddles of 2015.
